Our Approach to Dog Training

I love dog trainingPuppy Don’t Bite is a free online resource for all your dog training needs.

This site is filled with insanely easy and practical tips for transforming your puppy into an obedient, loving companion.

  • Do you have a young puppy that loves to poop on the rug?  No problem.
  • Want to get your dog to stop barking all the time?  We’ve got you covered.
  • Does your puppy go crazy every time you leave for work?  Worry not.

The strategies throughout this site will help make dog training much easier – and way more enjoyable.

And the best part is, you won’t have to invest hours and hours of tedious instruction.  The site was designed for super busy (or lazy) people who LOVE their dogs but don’t have a lot of time.

So Here’s the Deal…

We’ve collected tips and strategies from some of the top dog trainers in the world. Some of our favorite experts include:

      • Doggy Dan – the SPCA-endorsed dog training guru who adopts a compassionate and gentle approach to correcting behavioral problems.
      • Dove Cresswell – Hollywood dog trainer whose online course stresses the importance of fun.  Dog training isn’t a chore – it’s a pleasure.
      • Daniel Stevens – creator of one of the most successful (and best-selling) dog training guides on the market.

But before you dive headfirst into your dog training, it’s important to remember that every puppy is unique. That’s why we try to include at least 3 or 5 practical tips for every behavioral problem.  And as much as possible, we’ve ordered these strategies by popularity. So… if your dog doesn’t respond to Bite Inhibition, then try the Time Out Method or the Substitution Technique. With enough tries, you’ll eventually stumble on something that works. And remember that success is both contagious and cumulative.

      • Today, you’re tackling simple commands like “stay” or “come.”
      • By next month, you’ll be training your dog to fetch your pipe and slippers.
      • By next year, your puppy will be setting the table and fixing you breakfast.

Okay – maybe the last one won’t ever happen.  But you get the point.

About Us

Austin Dog TrainingMy name is Austin, and I grew up with dogs (usually 2 at a time – almost always collies).

Needless to say, I love dogs.  They do everything you could ever want a best friend to do:

  • They protect you.
  • They cheer you up.
  • They cuddle (no questions asked).
  • They love and love and love.

My girlfriend, however, came from a very different background.  She’s a cat person through and through.  And it took a lot of arm-wringing before she’d agree to a new dog.

Best decision we ever made.

But it wasn’t smooth sailing right away.  Fresh from the pound, our young yellow lab (Langston) had all the problems you normally associate with dogs (but not cats):

  • Slobber
  • Poop
  • Barking
  • Biting (some cats are guilty of this one)
  • Neediness (no cat is guilty of this)

But although I had spent my entire life around dogs, I’d never actually trained one.  Growing up, mom had always adopted young adult dogs from the shelter because she didn’t want to deal with puppies.

So this was my very first time owning a puppy.  And I had just spent months convincing my girlfriend of how great dogs were.

I had to learn how to train Langston (and train him fast).

That’s when I started collecting puppy training tips from books, websites, and online courses.  And I realized that dog training is actually a lot of fun.  Frustrating at times – yes.  But the breakthroughs are awesome.  And the experience has (and continues to be) extremely rewarding.

This is why we launched PuppyDontBite.com.

We wanted share our insights and help bring you and your canine friend closer and closer together.
